transcripthow to plant and care for bamboohi, i'm debbie anderson for about.com home. the addition of plants can add warmth and beauty to any room in the home. unfortunately, not all of us were born with a green thumb.
today i'm going to show you how to plant and care for one of the most beautiful and low-maintenance members of the plant family, the little bamboo.
supplies needed to plant bamboo
to get started, you will need:
a vase or plant pot without a hole in the bottom
river rocks
wire ties
room temperature water
6 to 8 sticks of bamboo that are approximately 4 to 8 inches in length
add bamboo and river rocks to the vase
first, place your bamboo sticks in the center of the vase or pot. once the bamboo sticks have been arranged, add river rocks to the inside of the vase so that the bamboo sticks are gently held in place by the rocks. the rocks should fill up the lower 2 to 3 inches of the vase.
wrap the bamboo with wire ties
next, lightly wrap the bamboo sticks together with wire ties so they stay in place.
when wiring any plant, make sure the wires are tight enough so that the plant grows in the direction you want it to grow. however, don't make it so tight that the wires begin cutting into the bamboo.
fill the vase with water
finally, fill the vase up to the top of the rocks with room temperature water.
to maintain your little bamboo's life, remember to keep the vase filled with water when it looks low, which is easier to remember if you use a clear vase like this one.
